From Canada with love, je vous présente Family of the Year : groupe peu connu mais ensoleillé comme leur Californie natale (surtout Chugjug du Through the Trees EP, the song I can’t stop listening to… et donc fortement conseillée en introduction).
Check out this sweet cover of Failsafe, à vous donner des frissons !
From Canada with love, allow me to introduce you to Family of the Year: relatively unknown but sure to please with sunny songs that recall their home state of California. Listen to Chugjug first, the song I can’t stop listening to from the Through the Trees EP.
Then go listen to everything they’ve ever done on familyoftheyear.net, where you can also name your price for the band’s full-length, entitled Songbook.
I just love their use of layered vocals to create a gorgeous choral ambiance, especially at the 1:13 transition – brilliant! Those voices meld beautifully. Speaking of which, I should probably add some Canadian equivalents: check out Library Voices from Regina, Saskatchewan. They’re like the New Pornographers, but a bit rougher around the edges & more folksy.
Then there’s The Choir Practice, a 14-member collective from Vancouver (including Kurt Dahle of the very same New Pornographers! Imagine that!) Check out this sweet cover of Failsafe, it will send shivers down your spine!
